Why We Like The Moab 3 Mid Waterproof Hiking Shoe
We packed their bags with rain covers and rain jackets, which means we're putting the Moab 3 Mid Waterproof Hiking Shoe on their feet. This taller hiker gives them plenty of protection from debris and water with a leather upper that's lined by a waterproof membrane. Like all good Merrell shoes and boots, it features a Vibram rubber outsole to prevent slipping on steep trails.

The laces are NOT a problem đź‘Ť
The issue people are having with the laces behind the tongue is easily remedied by wrapping the string over the top of the hook, rather than the bottom of the hook, then crossing to tie the shoes. My son has worn this style for the past 2 years. He has done everything in them! They've held up great. Only need to be replaced because he's outgrown them. Tying the laces like this actually makes the shoe fit better. Some runners even do this to running shoes with lace holes. Skip the hole below the top hole, go through the top hole, then back through the hole you skipped, then tie the laces.

Very disappointed
I bought 2 pairs for my kids and they can't wear them due to a flawed design that I see others complain about. A complete disappointment

Hooks at the top cause these to be dangerous!
Our son was so excited about these! He wore them to school for the first time today and came home with black and blue knees and was crushed. The hooks at the top of lacing for the last crossover are at a bad angle and stick out. Multiple times today, they grabbed the lace from the other foot as he was running, causing aggressive falls. He was in tears multiple times throughout the day. These are a dangerous shoe.

Very comfortable and warm. Waterproof. Grips beautifully on rocks when climbing.

Lining issues
Wanted to love these but the quality wasn't up to Merrell's usual standard. The first pair ordered had a fold in the lining that rubbed on my foot. I returned and ordered a second pair, which had the same issue.

Great Kids Outdoor Adventure Shoe
Bought these for my daughter and our outdoor adventures. She loves them, and feels they are very comfortable. She did voice one complaint. The top lace shanks/eyelets are higher than the shoe tongue, causing the lacing to bite into her leg. We bought these one size larger and the fit is great. There is a lot of padding inside these shoes, hence the upsizing.

Tongue is WAY too short - otherwise, great boot.
I purchased these for my daughter, she loves the color of the blue pair. Fit and comfort were great…until we laced up the boots and saw the length deficit of the tongue. VERY disappointing. In the future, Merrill - I sincerely hope you reconsider and add some length to the tongue of this boot style. I will definitely be checking this before purchase next time. To the reviewer in Denton Tx - THANK YOU!!! The photos you posted were very helpful. Bringing the laces up and over the top metal loops instead of under saved us from returning these boots.
